The Taiwan Stock Exchange has surpassed India to become the world’s 5th largest stock market, with a market capitalization of $4.95 trillion compared to India’s $4.92 trillion.
The leading global equity markets, ranked by market capitalization, include the USA, China, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, and South Korea.
The book “Taiwan Travelogue”, written by Taiwanese author Yang Shuang-zi and translated by Lin King, has won the International Booker Prize 2026. It is the first book originally written in Mandarin Chinese to win this prestigious award.
The prize carries a cash reward of £50,000, which is split equally between the author and the translator. The story revolves around Aoyama Chizuko, a Japanese novelist who embarks on a culinary exploration of the island during a government-sponsored tour instead of performing her official duties.
Other books shortlisted for the prize include “The Nights Are Quiet in Tehran” by Shida Bazyar, “She Who Remains” by Rene Karabash, “The Director” by Daniel Kehlmann, “On Earth As It Is Beneath” by Ana Paula Maia, and “The Witch” by Marie NDiaye.
CTBC Bank Co Ltd has inaugurated a new branch at the GIFT City in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, becoming the first Taiwanese bank to establish a presence in the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) of India.
It is to be noted that the bank has been operating in India for 30 years and has existing branches in New Delhi and Chennai.
The Gujarat government has signed an MoU with Allegiance International Company Ltd to establish an Indo-Taiwan Industrial Park in the Sanand-Dholera region.
The proposed industrial park will focus on high-technology sectors like semiconductors, electronics manufacturing, Electric Vehicles (EVs), robotics, and related supply chain infrastructure.
