UDAN Scheme Milestone: 687 Routes and 95 Aerodromes Operationalised Under Modified UDAN

The Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) - UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) of India, implemented by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, was launched in 2016 to expand affordable air travel beyond major cities. The scheme has successfully operationalised 687 regional routes and 95 aerodromes.

It is implemented by the Airports Authority of India as its nodal implementing agency. The next phase of the scheme was implemented in 2016 over a span of 10 years from FY27 to FY36, with an outlay of ₹28,840 crore.

Air Ayodhya Gets NOC: Megamax Aviation to Launch Regional Airline Under UDAN

8 October 2026 NATIONAL

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to Air Ayodhya, a regional airline operated by Megamax Aviation Pvt Ltd.

The airline is authorized to operate under the Regional Connectivity Scheme - Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik (RCS - UDAN) to improve air connectivity in the underserved regions of Uttar Pradesh (UP).

Challenge Mode Portal for Aerodrome Development Launched Under Modified UDAN Scheme

23 September 2026 NATIONAL

Union Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu has launched the Challenge Mode Portal for Aerodrome Development in New Delhi, marking the implementation of the modified regional connectivity scheme, Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik (UDAN).

The challenge-based selection approach aims to reduce the construction period of airports to 18 months from the current average of 3 years.

To facilitate infrastructure development, the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) have signed 21 MoUs with participating states and Union Territories. The Modified UDAN initiative has a target outlay of ₹30,000 crore over the next decade to develop 100 new airports. It aims to provide connectivity to 120 new destinations.
