India has launched its first electric hydrofoil vessel, the “Candela P12” (also called a “flying boat”), in Mumbai.
Developed by the Swedish manufacturer Candela, the vessel will be operated by JalVimana. The deployment is part of the initiative of the Maharashtra government to strengthen water-based transport infrastructure.
The National Commodities and Derivatives Exchange Ltd (NCDEX) has launched the first exchange-traded weather derivatives contract in India, named “RAINMUMBAI”, marking the entry of the country into a regulated weather-risk trading market.
Scheduled for implementation in June 2026, the contract is designed to hedge the financial exposure of rainfall extremes and variability in Mumbai. It was developed in collaboration with the IIT Bombay and is based on official rainfall data from the India Meteorological Department. The contract features a tick size of 1 millimeter (mm) with a lot multiplier of ₹50 per mm and a maximum order size of 50 lots.
India hosted the Kimberley Process (KP) Intersessional Meeting 2026 in Mumbai, under its 2026 Chairship. Suchindra Misra, Special Secretary, Department of Commerce (DOC), Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoC&I), served as the official KP Chair for 2026.
The KP currently comprises 60 participants representing 86 countries, with the European Union (EU) participating as a single bloc. The deliberations focused on the “3Cs” framework: Credibility, Compliance, and Consumer Confidence, aimed at promoting responsibly sourced natural diamonds.
It is to be noted that the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) was established in 2000 to prevent conflict or “blood” diamonds from entering the legitimate global diamond trade.
According to the 20th edition of “The Wealth Report 2026” released by Knight Frank, India is ranked as the 6th largest wealth market globally. India has 19,877 Ultra-High Net-Worth Individuals (UHNWIs) and 207 billionaires, accounting for 2.8% of the global ultra-wealthy population (up from 2% five years ago). USA remains the top wealth market with 2.51 lakh UHNWIs, followed by China, Germany, and UK. By 2031, the number of UHNWIs in India is projected to grow by 27% to reach 25,217, while the number of billionaires is expected to increase by 51% to 313.
The Indian Express Group has organized the Chetak Screen Awards 2026 in Mumbai, marking the resumption of the event after a gap of 7 years. The ceremony honoured excellence in Indian cinema and Over-the-Top (OTT) content released during the 2025 calendar year.
The spy thriller “Dhurandhar” was the most successful production, winning 14 awards from 24 nominations. Aditya Dhar was named the Best Director for the film, while Ranveer Singh won the Best Actor (Male) award and Akshaye Khanna won the Best Supporting Actor (Male) award.
It is to be noted that “Homebound”, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, won the Best Film award. Shalini Vatsa won the Best Supporting Actor (Female) award for the performance in the film, and Yami Gautam Dhar won the Best Actor (Female) award for the role in the film “Haq”.
Nadir Godrej will retire as the Chairman of Godrej Industries Ltd and assume the role of Chairman Emeritus.
Pirojsha Godrej, the current Chairperson Designate of the Godrej Industries Group, will succeed him as the Chairperson of the Godrej Industries Group and Godrej Industries Ltd., effective August 14.
