7 September 2026 NATIONAL

Union Minister of State Dr Jitin Prasada has co-chaired the 7th India-Morocco Joint Commission meeting during a visit to Morocco. He also participated in the Morocco-India Joint Business Forum to enhance commercial engagement between the two nations.

It was highlighted that the bilateral trade between the countries exceeded $4 billion in 2025, with a target to double it in the next 5 years. A Joint Working Group (JWG) will be established to explore the feasibility of a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA).

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) signed an MoU with the National Office of Food Safety (ONSSA) of Morocco to bolster cooperation in food safety. Both countries also signed a Cultural Exchange Programme for 2026-2030. It is to be noted that the 8th session of the JCM will be held in New Delhi in 2027.

The National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL), a constituent board of the Quality Council of India (QCI), has launched the first Accreditation Scheme for Mobile Food Testing Laboratories in India under the Integrated Assessment Programme.

The scheme was launched during the ‘Gunvatta Samanvaya – A Multilateral MoU Exchange Ceremony’ held in New Delhi. Developed by NABL, it establishes a framework for mobile food testing laboratories to deliver reliable, quality-assured, and internationally benchmarked testing services closer to communities.

5 August 2026 BUSINESS

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a prohibition order against Dabur India Ltd for marketing food products with misleading claims such as "100% Pure" and "100% Natural".

These claims were found to be in violation of the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulations, 2018.

The 49th Session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC49) was held in Geneva, Switzerland. During the session, 7 codex standards and guidelines developed under the chairmanship and co-chairmanship of India were adopted.

The commission also approved a proposal by the Government of India (GoI) to initiate new work for developing a codex standard for cashew kernels under the Codex Committee on Processed Fruits and Vegetables (CCPFV).
