The Ministry of Steel (MoS) has announced the establishment of the Steel Industry Safety Council as an apex-level body. The council aims to enhance safety standards, practices, and accident prevention protocols across the domestic steel sector.
The SISC will be chaired by Sandeep Poundrik, the Secretary of the MoS.
Tata Steel Ltd (Tata Steel) has commissioned a “Coke Oven Gas (COG) Injection Project” at its Meramandali plant in Odisha. The project, implemented at Blast Furnace 1, is the first-ever initiative of its kind in the Indian steel industry.

Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy has inaugurated a new 84,000 cubic metre Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) Water Reservoir at the IISCO Steel Plant (ISP) in Burnpur, West Bengal.
The reservoir is designed to meet the operational water requirements of the Coke Oven Battery-10 (COB-10) facility of the plant. It is also engineered to secure water safety for the proposed 4.08 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) capacity expansion project at the ISP.
The Ministry of Steel has granted 'Miniratna Category-I' status to MECON Ltd, a Schedule 'A' Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE).

The National Stock Exchange of India Ltd (NSE) has signed an MoU with the Steel Users Federation of India (SUFI) to develop the steel and commodity derivatives ecosystem.
It is to be noted that the crude steel production of India increased by nearly 11% year-on-year to 168.4 million tonnes (MT) in the FY26 and is projected to reach 300 MT by 2030.
Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has signed an MoU with the Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon, to collaborate on Executive Education Programmes. The partnership aims to develop future-ready leadership within SAIL by integrating academic knowledge with real-world applications.
Ashok Kumar Panda has been appointed as the CMD of the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). He succeeds Krishna Kumar Singh.
