National

Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh has launched the ‘Livestock Insurance Portal’ (Pashudhan Bima Portal) in New Delhi.

The portal, developed under the Livestock Insurance activity of the National Livestock Mission (NLM), provides a unified digital interface for stakeholders including farmers, insurers, and implementing agencies. To ensure comprehensive reach across diverse farming communities, the portal is accessible in 11 regional languages.

The Permanent Delegation of India to the UNESCO has announced the inclusion of 5 new heritage sites in the Tentative List of the World Heritage Convention (WHC). Four of these sites are located in Madhya Pradesh: the Bagh Cave Paintings, the Group of Temples of the Chambal Valley, the Udaigiri Caves, and the Ginnorgarh Fort.

A serial transnational proposal between India and South Africa, titled ‘Sites of Satyagraha’, has also been included. This property consists of 9 components, including 7 sites in India and 2 in South Africa (the Pietermaritzburg Station and the Phoenix Settlement).

It is to be noted that the total number of sites from India on the UNESCO Tentative List has increased to 78, comprising 58 cultural, 17 natural, and 3 mixed category sites.

Banking

Bank of Baroda (BoB), through its subsidiary BoB Pension Fund Management Company Limited, has received the Certificate of Appointment as a Sponsor of a Pension Fund from the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA).

It is to be noted that BoB is the second Public Sector Bank (PSB) to obtain this sponsorship, following the State Bank of India (SBI), which was the first PSB to enter the pension fund segment in 2008.

Agreements

The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has signed an agreement in New Delhi with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, for the first blue financing loan in India worth $70 million (₹672 crore).

The loan is structured as a 10-year United States Dollar (USD)-linked External Commercial Borrowing (ECB). The funds will be utilized to develop Shore Power Supply (SPS) infrastructure across the terminals of the JNPA in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra.

Defence

Union Minister Rajnath Singh has launched several digital and financial management initiatives during the 279th Annual Day of the Defence Accounts Department (DAD) held at DRDO Bhawan in New Delhi.

As part of the event, the System for Accounting and Knowledge Sharing Management (SAKSHAM), which serves as the bill audit and payment system of the DAD, was integrated with the Indian Army Financial Information System (IAFIS).

The Treasury Single Account (TSA) system was operationalised through the Payment Routing and Integrated System Management (PRISM) platform and integrated with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) e-KUBER system. A revamped National Compilation System (NCS) was also introduced to function as a unified platform for the accounting and compilation of overall defence expenditure.

Union Minister Rajnath Singh has launched “INS Surya” (FSS-1), the first indigenously designed and built Fleet Support Ship (FSS) of the Indian Navy (IN), at Hindustan Shipyard Ltd (HSL) in Visakhapatnam.

He also initiated the keel laying of FSS-5, marking the start of construction for the fifth ship in the series. Infrastructure at HSL has been upgraded with a a 300-tonne Goliath crane. These facilities will support the construction of vessels up to 45,000 Deadweight Tonnage (DWT).

The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract worth ₹661.5 crore with BrahMos Aerospace Pvt Ltd (BAPL) in New Delhi for the procurement of BrahMos Fire Control Systems (FCS) and Launchers for the Indian Navy vessels.

The acquisition is made under the “Buy (Indian-IDDM)” (Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category. It is to be noted that the equipment to be supplied must have a minimum indigenous content of 68%.

Science

Space Exploration Technologies Corporation (SpaceX) has successfully launched 130 payloads into Low Earth Orbit (LEO) as part of the Transporter-18 smallsat rideshare mission. The launch was carried out using a Falcon 9 rocket from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, USA.

The mission included the launch of ‘MVP’, the inaugural in-orbit experiment under Google Project Suncatcher. It is to be noted that Project Suncatcher is a space research programme announced in 2025 to facilitate the development of a full orbital data centre.

Awards

India has secured the 10th position at the 48th edition of the WorldSkills Competition held in Shanghai, China. The Indian team won 6 Silver Medals and 20 Medals for Excellence.

China, the host nation, topped the overall medal table. It is to be noted that the 49th edition of the competition, titled ‘WorldSkills Aichi 2028’, is scheduled to be held in Aichi, Japan.
