National

Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi visited India to participate in the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit at the invitation of PM Narendra Modi. Both leaders held a bilateral meeting at Hyderabad House in New Delhi.

During the summit, both countries announced 16 key outcomes to expand bilateral cooperation. The leaders also attended the Japan-India Joint Economic Forum, hosted by the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) in New Delhi. The forum witnessed the inauguration of the 4th vehicle manufacturing facility of Maruti Suzuki in Kharkhoda, Haryana.

The central government has approved the procurement of Khopra and Totapuri mangoes from farmers in Tamil Nadu under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) to ensure better price realization and protect producers from distress sales.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has approved the procurement of 87,226 metric tonnes (MT) of Khopra and 96,879 MT of Totapuri mangoes at a price of ₹1,545.41 per quintal.

Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan have launched the 'Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Yojana (VB-G RAM G)' nationwide at Mukkavaripalli village in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh.

The centre has committed a total financial outlay of ₹7.5 lakh crore for the implementation of the scheme over a 5-year period. The annual outlay for the scheme is ₹1.51 lakh crore, with the Centre contributing ₹95,692 crore and the States providing the remaining 40% of the funding.

The State Bank of India (SBI) has acquired a 10% stake in the RMBS Development Company Limited (RDCL), an entity focused on residential mortgage-backed securitisation.

Following this transaction, the shareholding of the National Housing Bank (NHB) in the RDCL has declined from 39% to 29%.

According to the '5th annual edition of the Global Passport Index (GPI)' released by the Global Citizen Solutions (GCS), India is ranked 125th among 197 countries with a composite score of 45.1.

Sweden holds the top position with an overall score of 96.05, followed by Switzerland, Finland, Germany, and the Netherlands. In the GPI 2026, India is ranked 136th in the Enhanced Mobility Index, 118th in the Quality of Life Index, and 94th in the Investment Index.

Defence

The DRDO has successfully conducted a flight-test of the Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket (LRGR) at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur. The rocket was tested for a user-defined minimum range of 60 km and successfully demonstrated all planned in-flight manoeuvres.

The Pinaka LRGR was designed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) in collaboration with the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL).

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a loan of $182.89 million (in Japanese Yen equivalent) to Karnataka for the "Strengthening Karnataka Public Schools Program". The program aims to strengthen the public school system by establishing 500 integrated school clusters.

Additionally, the program will receive a $10 million grant and a $25 million guarantee from the International Finance Facility for Education (IFFEd).

Appointments

Bijay Kumar Mohanty has assumed the additional charge as the CMD of the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd (IREDA) for a period of 3 months, effective from July 2026.

He succeeds Pradip Kumar Das. He continues to serve as the Director (Finance) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of IREDA.

Awards

The Jestha Varna Mahavihar, a historic Buddhist monastery located in Lalitpur, Nepal (also known as Jyaba Bahi or Chakrabahil), has been conferred with the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award 2025. The award recognises the outstanding conservation and restoration work undertaken following the damage caused by the 2015 Gorkha earthquake.

It is to be noted that the restoration project was supported by the Government of India (GoI) through its post-earthquake cultural heritage reconstruction grant, with financial assistance of NPR 13.78 crore.

Australia, captained by Sophie Molineux, has won the 2026 ICC Women's T20 World Cup, marking their 7th championship victory. They defeated the hosts England by 7 wickets in the final held at the Lord's cricket stadium in London.

The 2026 ICC Women's T20 World Cup featured 12 teams, marking an expansion in participation for the first time. Danni Wyatt-Hodge of England emerged as the top run-scorer with 302 runs, while N Shree Charani of India was the leading wicket-taker with 14 wickets. Beth Mooney of Australia was named the Player of the Match in the final.
