Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has partnered with the Dubai Gold and Commodities Exchange (DGCX) to modernise the exchange’s market infrastructure with a next-generation integrated trading, clearing and surveillance solution. The partnership was announced on 15 September 2026 in Dubai and Mumbai, and will provide DGCX with a flexible technology foundation to support growth and faster product launches. The upgrade will cover DGCX’s derivatives across energy, currencies, equities, bullion and precious metals while enabling expansion into crypto and tokenised assets.

What Does the TCS-DGCX Partnership Involve?

The TCS-DGCX partnership is an agreement announced on 15 September 2026 for TCS to implement a next-generation integrated trading, clearing and surveillance platform at DGCX. The programme will modernise and future-proof the exchange’s market infrastructure, improve operational efficiency and accelerate new product development for regional and international participants.

Under the transformation programme, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) will provide DGCX with a more flexible technology foundation that supports future growth and faster time to market for new products. The exchange, headquartered in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, is the Middle East’s leading derivatives exchange and a subsidiary of the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC). TCS said the new platform will strengthen DGCX’s ability to respond to evolving needs across established and emerging asset classes.

The announcement came through a joint press release in Dubai and Mumbai and an exchange filing by TCS (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS). DGCX Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Bin Sulayem noted that the new foundation will support offerings across several markets and give the exchange more room to introduce products. TCS President R. Vivekanand said the combined power of TCS BaNCS, Quartz and partner solutions will help build a modern, scalable platform for growth and product innovation. Following the announcement, TCS shares rose, trading around ₹2,262 to ₹2,280 on 15 September 2026, up more than 2 percent.

What Is the Dubai Gold and Commodities Exchange?

What is DGCX?

The Dubai Gold and Commodities Exchange (DGCX) is the leading derivatives exchange in the Middle East that trades futures and options contracts in precious metals, hydrocarbons, currencies and equities. Established in November 2005 as the region’s first commodity derivatives exchange, DGCX is a subsidiary of the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) and is regulated by the UAE Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA).

DGCX was created because Dubai has historically been a global hub for physical trade in gold and other commodities. The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC), established in 2002 as a strategic initiative of the Government of Dubai, promotes commodity trade flows through the emirate. DMCC holds over 1,500 precious metals members and owns supporting infrastructure such as the subterranean vault and the DMCC Tradeflow platform, which together with DGCX forms a comprehensive precious metals ecosystem.

DGCX commenced trading in November 2005 and offers four broad asset classes: Currencies, Metals, Hydrocarbons and Equities. Its products include gold futures, silver contracts, Indian rupee currency futures, Brent and WTI related contracts, and equity index futures. The exchange operates from 07:00 to 23:55 Dubai time (GMT+4) and provides guaranteed settlement and reduced counterparty risk through its wholly owned clearing house, the Dubai Commodities Clearing Corporation (DCCC), founded in 2005.

The exchange has steadily expanded its product suite. It launched a Shariah-compliant Spot Gold contract in 2018 and the Shariah Compliant Silver Spot Contract in 2023, catering to Islamic funds and investors. In June 2026, DGCX launched the Gold Spot T+0 Contract, the GCC’s first same-day physically settled spot gold product offered on a regulated exchange. The T+0 contract is based on 1 kilogram UAE Good Delivery gold, settled in UAE dirhams, cleared through DCCC and delivered via approved vault infrastructure, reducing friction compared with next-day settlement cycles.

In terms of scale, DGCX reported strong momentum in 2025, with total traded volumes rising 30 percent year on year to 2,048,556 lots and total value reaching $46.96 billion. Average daily volumes were about 7,940 lots with average open interest around 13,015 lots, reflecting continued depth in its markets.

What Is Tata Consultancy Services and How Does It Work?

What is TCS?

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is a global IT services, consulting and business solutions company headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, and is a flagship company of the Tata Group. Founded in 1968, TCS provides digital transformation, cloud, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and enterprise solutions to clients in banking, healthcare, retail and manufacturing, and generated consolidated revenues of more than $30 billion in the fiscal year ended 31 March 2026.

TCS pioneered India’s IT services industry. It began as Tata Consultancy Services after the Tata Computer Centre at Nirmal Building, Nariman Point, was remodelled into a consultancy arm. Early milestones included the banking reconciliation and payroll work for Tata group companies, the first overseas project for an Iranian electricity company in 1971, a partnership with Burroughs Corporation in 1973, and the creation of the Tata Research Development and Design Centre (TRDDC) in 1973, which introduced computer-aided software engineering. The company built the core platform for the National Stock Exchange (NSE) in 1992 and for the National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) in 1996, listed through a blockbuster initial public offering in 2004 (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS), crossed $1 billion in revenue in 2003 and $10 billion in 2012, and today employs more than 584,000 people (as of 2026) serving clients in over 50 countries.

How TCS works and what technology it uses

TCS operates through a consulting-led, platform-driven model that combines domain expertise with proprietary products. For financial market clients, its central offering is TCS BaNCS, a universal financial solution, and Quartz, a blockchain and AI enabled ecosystem platform. These are delivered under the BFSI Products and Platforms group, which helps financial institutions improve customer experience and operational transformation.

TCS BaNCS is the flagship suite for banking, insurance and capital markets. It supports end-to-end trade and post-trade functions on a single platform and is cloud ready, deployed in more than 25 markets worldwide. About 40 percent of trades in India are settled on the TCS BaNCS engine, and 8 of the top 10 global custodians run on it. The platform handles up to 10 million trades per day at peak, covering about $40 trillion in assets under custody. It is benchmarked to global standards such as G30, PFMI (Principles for Financial Market Infrastructures), EMIR, CSDR, GDPR, SFTR and messaging standards like ISO 20022, FIX and FpML.

Quartz adds blockchain, artificial intelligence and analytics capabilities. Quartz for Markets offers tokenised securities services, Quartz for Crypto Services links to public blockchains like Bitcoin and Ethereum, and Quartz Gateway provides industry standard market connectivity. In December 2025, TCS launched TCS BaNCS AI Compass, which integrates machine learning, deep learning and generative AI with pre-built agents for onboarding, credit underwriting, tax treatment prediction and document interpretation.

For market infrastructure, TCS BaNCS for Market Infrastructure uses a High Performance Transaction Manager (HpTM) framework with grid computing, microservices and containerised deployment for high performance, low latency and 24x7 resilience. This allows exchanges, central counterparty clearing houses (CCPs), central securities depositories (CSDs) and central banks to manage clearing, settlement, risk and collateral in real time across multiple asset classes, currencies and markets.

How Will TCS Upgrade DGCX Market Infrastructure?

The TCS solution for DGCX is an integrated package that brings trading, clearing, surveillance and connectivity together on one modern platform. The design is scalable and flexible, intended to shorten product launch cycles while strengthening support for existing markets.

The technology stack that TCS will deploy includes five components:

ComponentFunction
TCS BaNCS for Market InfrastructureCentral counterparty clearing, settlement, risk and collateral management
Quartz for SurveillanceMonitoring and detection of market manipulation, fraud and abnormalities
TCS BaNCS Securities TradingSecurities trading across asset classes for market participants
TCS Quartz GatewayIndustry standard connectivity with generative AI powered reporting, analytics and decision making
Global exchange trading and matching engineExchange trading and order matching from a global exchange partner

Together, these solutions will support DGCX’s range of derivatives products across energy commodities, currencies, equities, bullion and precious metals, while creating the infrastructure for expansion into emerging classes such as crypto and tokenised assets. The platform is designed to give DGCX more flexibility to add products and serve a wider set of regional and international participants.

What is market infrastructure?

Market infrastructure refers to the fundamental systems and institutions that enable financial markets to function safely and efficiently. It includes exchanges that provide trading platforms, clearing corporations that guarantee settlement, and depositories that hold securities electronically. In India, these are called Market Infrastructure Institutions (MIIs) and are regulated by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) (as of September 2026). Market infrastructure ensures price discovery, liquidity, risk management and investor confidence, and any failure can have systemic impact beyond the securities market.

What is a commodities exchange?

A commodities exchange is a regulated marketplace where commodity derivatives such as futures and options are traded. Buyers and sellers enter contracts that fix the price of a commodity for future delivery, which helps producers, manufacturers and end users hedge price risk. A commodities exchange also allows financial institutions and investors to trade in the commodity asset class. Examples include DGCX for gold and energy, and India’s Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), established in 2003 and headquartered in Mumbai, which trades bullion, metals and energy contracts.

What is Quartz for Surveillance?

Quartz for Surveillance is a TCS platform that helps regulators and exchanges detect market abuse. It provides multi-asset and multi-market support with real-time or periodic data flows via Quartz Gateway, and uses AI, machine learning and natural language processing (NLP) to flag anomalies. The solution offers more than 50 rule-based alerts and more than 30 pattern-based alerts covering wash trades, spoofing, front running, circular trading, pump and dump, marking the close and cross market manipulation. It also includes a market replay feature, interactive dashboards, heat maps and generative AI based reporting to help surveillance officers take preventive and corrective action.

Why Is This Upgrade Significant?

The upgrade comes at a time when Dubai is reinforcing its position as a global hub for bullion and commodity trade. Dubai sits between European and East Asian time zones and channels significant gold flows between East and West, making efficient market infrastructure critical for price discovery and capital efficiency.

For DGCX, the immediate benefit is operational. A unified clearing and settlement approach consolidates multiple payment and settlement rails into one solution, supports real-time and deferred net settlement, and improves risk and collateral management with intraday margining and stress testing. This lowers operational friction, improves resilience and helps the exchange manage liquidity more effectively.

Product innovation is the second driver. The June 2026 launch of the Gold Spot T+0 Contract showed DGCX’s move toward physical, same-day settlement within a regulated framework. The new TCS platform will make it easier to bring similar products to market quickly, while supporting tokenised gold, silver spot contracts and future crypto linked instruments. DMCC has already partnered to tokenise gold backed by its Tradeflow platform, and DGCX can now extend that innovation through Quartz for Markets and Quartz for Crypto Services.

For TCS, the deal strengthens its footprint in the Middle East and adds to a track record of market infrastructure transformations, including the TMX Group in Canada in 2017, where TCS BaNCS replaced legacy systems for the Canadian Depository for Securities and Canadian Derivatives Clearing Corporation, and Strate, South Africa’s central securities depository that serves five exchanges. Such projects demonstrate TCS’s ability to deliver mission critical systems for exchanges, CCPs and CSDs.

For market participants such as bullion dealers, refineries, brokers, clearing members and institutional investors, the upgrade means faster product availability, stronger surveillance against manipulation, and better connectivity through standard APIs, FIX and ISO 20022 messaging. A more robust and transparent DGCX also supports Dubai’s broader ecosystem, which includes over 1,500 precious metals members at DMCC, and helps channel global liquidity through the UAE’s taxation and regulatory regime.

The Way Forward

DGCX is expected to roll out the new platform in phases, starting with the migration of existing derivatives products and then expanding to new asset classes. The platform’s componentised and parameter driven design will allow the exchange to configure workflows, limits and thresholds without rebuilding core systems, and to add microservices as volumes grow.

The focus in the near term will be on integrating the global exchange trading and matching engine, fully enabling TCS BaNCS for central counterparty clearing and Quartz for Surveillance with AI powered analytics, and connecting all data feeds through Quartz Gateway. This will set the stage for future products in tokenised assets and crypto, areas where regulatory clarity and investor demand are evolving quickly in the GCC region.

If executed well, the partnership could position DGCX as a benchmark for mid-sized regional exchanges seeking to modernise without building separate silos for each asset class. For TCS, success at DGCX would provide a reference case for other markets looking to adopt cloud ready, AI enabled market infrastructure that meets global standards such as PFMI, EMIR, CSDR and DORA while keeping total cost of ownership lower.
