Tamil Nadu leads because of its chain of coastal lagoons, bird sanctuaries and tanks that support large heronries and migratory waterbirds such as the spot billed pelican and painted stork. Which Laws Protect Wetlands in India?
The main legal tool is the Wetlands (Conservation and Management) Rules, 2017.
