ICICI Life Insurance Limited, earlier known as ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company Limited, unveiled its new brand identity and tagline Har Kal Aasaan on 16 October 2026 in Mumbai. The tagline means every tomorrow made easy and signals a shift toward simpler, more transparent and flexible life insurance. The rebrand follows the formal change in the company name effective 22 September 2026 after Prudential stepped back as promoter.

What Is ICICI Prudential Life Insurance and What Has Changed?

ICICI Prudential Life Insurance was an Indian life insurer created as a joint venture between ICICI Bank Limited and Prudential Corporation Holdings Limited. It started operations in fiscal year 2001 under the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) and was renamed ICICI Life Insurance Limited in September 2026.

The legal name change took effect on 22 September 2026. On that day the Registrar of Companies (RoC), which functions under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and registers companies in India, issued a fresh Certificate of Incorporation. With this certificate, the name clause of the company’s Memorandum of Association was altered from ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company Limited to ICICI Life Insurance Limited.

The new public identity was unveiled later, on 16 October 2026 in Mumbai. The company presented a refreshed logo and visual language along with the tagline Har Kal Aasaan. Company executive Srinivas Balasubramanian, Chief of Marketing, Digital and Bancassurance, said the change was more than a change of name. It was presented as a promise to make the process of securing the financial future simpler and easier to understand.

Why Did ICICI Prudential Become ICICI Life?

The name change was driven by a change in ownership. Prudential Corporation Holdings Limited (PCHL), the Indian investment arm of the British insurer Prudential plc, decided to reposition its India business. On 17 May 2026 Prudential plc announced an agreement to acquire a 75% stake in Bharti Life Insurance Company Limited from Bharti Life Ventures and 360 ONE Asset Management for an initial consideration of about ₹3,500 crore. The aim was to hold a controlling stake in Bharti Life alongside a separate health insurance venture in India.

Following that decision, the Board of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company Limited met on 6 July 2026 and approved two related proposals. The first was to change the company name to ICICI Life Insurance Limited. The second was to apply to the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) for reclassification of PCHL from promoter to investor. A promoter is an entity with control and long term responsibility for a company, while an investor holds shares mainly for financial returns without such control.

ICICI Bank Limited, India’s large private sector bank headquartered in Mumbai, said it would retain its majority holding in the insurer. Exchange disclosures in May 2026 placed the shareholding at about 50.89% with ICICI Bank, 21.91% with Prudential Holdings and 27.20% with the public. The name change therefore aligns the corporate identity with the post exit promoter structure, in which the ICICI Group remains the principal promoter.

What Does Har Kal Aasaan Mean for Customers?

Har Kal Aasaan translates to every tomorrow made easy. ICICI Life Insurance says the tagline captures its commitment to make life insurance simpler, more transparent and more flexible for Indian families. The focus is on clarity in policy wordings, ease of buying and paying premiums online, and quick support during claims.

The company has framed the change as a move from fear to ease. Traditional life insurance communication often stresses protection against death or misfortune. The new brand platform, developed with creative agency Ogilvy India, instead talks about helping people make confident choices about their future goals with peace of mind. Launch films use everyday family moments to show that planning for tomorrow should not force people to put life today on hold.

In practical terms, the offer remains a full suite of protection, savings and retirement solutions. Protection plans include term insurance that pays a lump sum to the family if the insured person dies. Savings plans combine insurance cover with long term wealth creation. Retirement and annuity plans provide regular income after working life. The company says products, processes and distribution will all be aligned to this promise of ease, supported by digital tools for policy purchase, premium payment, renewal and claim tracking.

ICICI Life Insurance Company Profile at a Glance

ICICI Life Insurance commenced operations in fiscal year 2001 and has completed 25 years of service. Over this period the company says it has served more than 20 crore Indians. Its registered office is at ICICI PruLife Towers, Prabhadevi, Mumbai, and it is registered with IRDAI as a life insurer with Registration Number 105 and corporate identity number L66010MH2000PLC127837.

The company became the first Indian life insurer to list on Indian stock exchanges when it listed on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) in 2016. ICICI Bank has remained its largest shareholder. This listing history matters because listed insurers must publish audited financial results every quarter, which makes data on premiums, profits and claims publicly available.

Scale and service levels underline its position among India’s leading private life insurers. The figures below reflect disclosures for the year ended 31 March 2026.

Death claims settled in FY2026₹51.49 billion
Total benefits paid cumulatively₹3.72 trillion, including ₹279 billion in death claims
Individual death claim settlement ratio99.3% with average turnaround of about 1 day for non investigated claims

The claim settlement ratio is the share of total death claims received in a year that an insurer pays out. A ratio of 99.3% means that out of every 1,000 valid claims intimated, about 993 were settled. IRDAI collects and reviews this data every quarter and publishes annual comparisons to help policyholders judge reliability.

How ICICI Life Fits into India’s Insurance Landscape

Life insurance in India is regulated by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI). IRDAI was set up under the IRDAI Act, 1999 and is headquartered in Hyderabad, Telangana. It frames rules for policyholder protection, product approval, solvency margins and claim settlement timelines. Under its protection of policyholders framework, a life insurer must settle a death claim that needs no investigation within 15 days of receiving all documents, and must raise any request for extra papers in one go to avoid delay.

ICICI Life Insurance is one of India’s leading private life insurers by sum assured and new business premium. It operates alongside public giant Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), which was established in 1956 and remains the largest life insurer, and other private peers such as HDFC Life, SBI Life and Max Life. All life insurers share the national mission of Insurance for All by 2047, a policy goal announced by IRDAI to ensure every Indian has appropriate insurance cover by the centenary of independence.

Many people mix up similar sounding ICICI names. ICICI Life Insurance Limited sells only life insurance such as term, savings and retirement plans. ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company Limited is a separate listed company that sells non life covers such as motor, health and travel insurance. ICICI Prudential Asset Management Company is again different. It is a joint venture for mutual funds and does not sell insurance policies. The present rebrand affects only the life insurance company and does not change these other businesses.

The Way Forward

The immediate legal step is complete. The RoC has issued the new incorporation certificate and the memorandum and articles of association now carry the name ICICI Life Insurance Limited. The next regulatory step is IRDAI’s decision on the application to reclassify Prudential Corporation Holdings Limited from promoter to investor. Stock exchange filings indicate this process was underway after the July 2026 board approval.

For customers, the practical shift will be visible in policy documents, renewal notices, branch branding, the official website and the mobile app, which will move fully to the ICICI Life name. Existing policies remain valid. The terms, premiums and benefits of contracts signed under the old name do not change because of the rename.

The broader test will be whether simpler communication improves persistency, protection uptake and claim experience. The company has linked its future strategy to the national goal of Insurance for All by 2047 and to deeper use of data analytics and digitisation across the policy lifecycle. If the Har Kal Aasaan promise shortens claim turnaround and reduces complaints about complex wordings, it will strengthen trust at a time when regulators are closely watching sales practices and expense ratios in the industry.
